Photo / Video Challenges

1) Families on a beach - Playing, exploring or discovering things on the beach. A dynamic shot that tells a story. Sand Castle's or family activity on beach. Include people & action. Example: a shot of a child with a sand shovel, taken from below, to make it look like they're digging into the camera (an interesting perspective).

2) Week-end Getaway - Include where you stay, what you do, and the people involved. Example: A tent at a beachfront campsite with a kayak pulled up on the beach and people roasting marshmallows on a campfire, in the background there is an amazing sunset between snow capped mountains.

3) Events - Capture a favourite event in the Shuswap, include people having fun from an interesting perspective or camera angle. Example: Wednesday on the Wharf, a close up of a hand holding a piece of watermelon in the foreground, children dancing in the centre, musicians playing and the lake in the background.

4) Landscapes - Capture natural & and man-made features with people walking or cycling along a path or trail. Example: Early morning walk along the red wharf in Chase with the lake, beach and amphitheatre in the scene.

5) Shoe Swap - City people love the lifestyle that can be enjoyed in the Shuswap, they can take off their office shoes and go barefoot, put on a pair of flip flops, hiking boots or other recreational footwear. Capture feet dressed for rest, relaxation or recreation. Include some visual context to show that the feet are in the Shuswap. Ex: Feet dangling over the side of a boat with toes touching the water, Bastion Mountain in the background.

6) Seasons - Get a shot that shows a distinct season in a distinctly Shuswap setting. Include people and action. Example: Snowshoeing beside the Eagle River with Queest mountain in the background.

7) Food & Beverage - Provide a visual taste of the Shuswap by picturing a culinary experience. Showcase something tasty, refreshing, or delicious being enjoyed by someone. Make sure it captures the flavour of the Shuswap. Ex: A picnic beside a hiking trail with local products being enjoyed along with the surrounding scenery.

8) On the Road - Rubber tire transportation gets most people to their Shuswap destination. Scenic drives along a narrow windy road along the lake side, or a country road with open fields, or an overhanging shady lane provide an enjoyable journey. Small roads mean small towns, big hearts and slower paces. Capture a happy road scene that would inspire people to want to travel here. Example: A pick-up truck parked on the side of a gravel road next to a pumpkin patch. The tailgate is open; in the box are children of different ages standing next to pumpkins of different sizes that they just picked from the field after going for a hay-wagon ride towed by a tractor that is also in the scene. It dusty, but everyone is down to earth, having a great time.

9) Arts & Culture - The Shuswap has a vibrant arts community as well as rich culture and heritage. The challenge is to encapsulate someone admiring or appreciating a work of art, having a cultural experience or visiting a heritage site within the Shuswap context. Example: Paint the Festival - an artist paints a scene at the Roots & Blues Festival, the scene includes a booth for the Switzmalph Cultural Centre with a reed basket weaving demonstration, a group of youth playing hacky sack and a group of fans connecting with musicians on stage.

10) Love the Shuswap - Compose a picture of video that showcases what you love about the Shuswap. The challenge is to be able to get the viewer to really understand what makes the Shuswap special for you.
