The event was a great success. We gave out nearly 100 souvenir passports that participants filled with stickers collected at caches around the Shuswap. There were 363 entries into the draw for prizes. Around 15 new geocachers came to the intro workshop, around 30 people came to the Friday night Social Event and 21 people participated in the Geo-Golf event. There were a few very close attempts on the hole-in-one, but unfortunately nobody won the Toyota Prius. The cache-in-trash-out event went very well with the help from “Bin-There-Dump-That” who provided us with a dumpster and hauled it away when we were done. A small but enthusiastic group came to the workshop about hiding geocaches, several of our caches have been adopted. We did several group outings with over 20 people cycling the Nature Bay trail itinerary. It was a lot of fun and we look forward to future developments. Global TV did a story about the event, Click here to download the video file.
Plans are already under way for our next event where you can expect to see a larger variety of challenging caches including multi-caches, puzzle caches, earth caches and whereigo caches. There will be creative camouflage and a variety of caches sizes including micro, nano and extra large. The Winter 2010 event is scheduled for January 22-31. We welcome all ideas and involvement and will have an open invitation to attend planning sessions.
We are exploring ideas to create a geo-adventure competition with a series of challenges similar to “The Amazing Race” and “Survivor”. The tentative dates being considered are May 14-24. In addition to the challenges, there will be a series of new caches and the option to access cache locations on horseback, by boat and other fun ways.
We hope to get geocachers from across BC and Alberta together to create a Mega-Event for August 2010. This will bring people from around the world together for an amazing geocaching event similar to the GeoWoodstock Event that will be held in Seattle in July.
These simple lovable characters have been created as ambassadors for the Shuswap. People are taking the characters with them on their travels and taking photos. People have already sent us photos in places such as Stonehenge in England and the Arc de Triumph in Paris. The characters are also being used to teach school children about GPS technology, Geocaching and geography. Students, teachers, parents and grandparents are getting involved and supporting the project through this concept. Jack & Jill can travel from cache to cache or join the family as a fun addition while travelling. More Info
We have joined the Interior Geocaching group on Facebook. It is a great place get to know other geocachers and to arrange group geocache outings.
Pairs of Olympic Tickets were won by the following geocachers: chinalily, Pro & Cras Tin8 and cjsn.
An Adams River Rafting trip for two was won by erinf31 and a family ride in a One Horse Open Sleigh at High Country Trails was won by lwong. The winner of the word scramble contest was lode runner. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated in the event. We will be contacting the winners to make arrangements to receive their prizes.
Use GPS to find the exact spot where the photographer stood to take each photo. Write the latitude and longitude of where you think each photo was taken. The entry with the closest coordinates overall wins. More Info
