Exploring the Shuswap with a GPS has helped Salmon Arm youth, Jeremy Roodzant to discover some beautiful locations. Unfortunately, in addition to finding hidden geocaches he has also come across some places that have been littered with garbage. The geocaching community has always been environmentally conscious with an initiative called‚ cache in, trash out‚ (CITO).

Jeremy and fellow geocachers organized a very successful CITO garbage clean-up event on Sept 19 at the Fly Hills Forestry Service Road. Darcy Mooney, CSRD Waste Management co-ordinator, is supportive of these kinds of initiatives and is discussing innovative ideas to help with the prevention of illegal dumping.

Shuswap GeoQuest has a CITO event planned for Oct.7
